Animal Control


State of Michigan law states that all dogs must be on a chain, leash or penned at all times except for sporting or agricultural use. The owner or any person in the home may be cited if the dog is at large. Michigan law also states that if your dog is outdoors, it is required to have adequate shelter (ie; dog house).

All dogs must be current on their rabies vaccinations and licensed. Licenses may be obtained at the Presque Isle County Treasurer's Office.

If you have an unwanted pet dog or cat, Presque Isle County Sheriff's Office can assist by picking up the animal or you may bring it to the Sheriff's Office. A $10.00 fee is required. You may also deliver the animal to the Cheboygan County Humane Society at 1536 Hackelburg Rd, Cheboygan, MI, 49721 - Telephone Number: (231) 238-8221.The Humane Society offers a wide variety of animals for adoption. A donation is required to give up ownership or adopt an animal. Note: Any person dropping off an unwanted pet on any roadway or street may be charged with a felony for abandonment.

As of July, 2000 it is against the law to own or possess any Wolf Hybrid animal.
